Lovely New Photos

Thank you so much to Hearthside for taking and sending us all of these photos of the event!

Congratulations to our winners!

After deliberation from the whole community, and some finagling to get the students their prizes, we are happy to announce the winners of the school painting competition! The entries were beyond fantastic, and we thank each and every student for their participation. Congratulations girls, and keep up the art!

We would like to thank everybody at Channel 12 for helping us get on the air.  Michaela Johnson, thank you for doing such a wonderful job introducing us.

With the festival only a few days away, it's inspiring to have support of the local media. Watch the clip here and make your way down May 31st.

Expressing What Now: The Vernal Arts Perfomance

The original intent of this festival was to bring art forms that are often considered avant garde down to earth. What is art that is not seen or understood? Rubbish!

The best way to understand these art forms is to see them performed. Action painting is supposed to capture the action, and when you see the paint slapping the canvas, it is hard to forget the passion that went into the stroke. The same is true with music. When we listen through ear buds, it is easy to pretend that making music isn't an engaging process, but it is! It should be danced to, painted to, and made faces at.

Great improvisational art is made in the moment by honestly responding to the environment.  In our case, the people, the artists, the weather, the farm and the music will produce, for lack of a better term, an energy that the artists will not be able to help expressing. Paul Cote's painting will be influenced by the music of Mr. Forte's Vernal Arts Consort, and the musicians will be affected by the painting and the crowds.

With luck, you too will express this energy by cheering clapping, singing and dancing. At the very least, the festival will be full of opportunities to see something, laugh at something and be curious at something.

It's hard not to be excited for Saturday.

Monday: Poetry Spur

If ever there were a poetry spur for May, Mr. Blake has made it.

Ah Sun-flower! weary of time,
Who countest the steps of the Sun:
Seeking after that sweet golden clime
Where the travellers journey is done.

Where the Youth pined away with desire,
And the pale Virgin shrouded in snow:
Arise from their graves and aspire,
Where my Sun-flower wishes to go.

~William Blake
